In what year was the Ti-chang-wang Miao founded? Records are ambivalent: One record says that it was founded in 1760, the same year in which the adjacent Chao-hsien Miao was built. Other record indicates that it was established in 1828; presently, there is a citation plaque in the Temple with four Chinese characters on it: Ti-chang-wang Miao; and it was dated 1828. But the crux is that whether the plaque was contributed in that year is unclear.

It is commonly said that in the world of Buddhism there are four great Bodhisattvas : i.e. the "Great-wit" Wen-shu Bodhisattva, the "Great-implementation" Pu-hsien Bodhisattva , the "Great Mercy" Guanyin Bodhisattva, and the "Great-wish" Bodhisattva Kitigarbha. If Guanyin Bodhisattva is a goddess that is responsible for saving the people in the mundane from hardship, then Ti-chang Bodhisattva is responsible for salvaging the souls of the ghosts in the hell; hence Ti-chang-wang is also called the "God of Specter."

Ti-chang-wang also assumes numerous names and hold in his hands different magic weapons. Usually, on his left and right are two generals named respectively Hsieh Pi-an and Fan Wu-chiu, who are in charge of detaining criminals to the hell for interrogation and judgment.

Presently, a rather invaluable literature in the Temple is a plaque. On it were four characters_Ti-chang-wang Miao_which were written in 1828. Inside, the Temple is dark and gloomy, yet the building still maintains its characteristic simplicity.
